Venous Reflux in Dallas, TX
Vanguard Vascular & Vein treats venous reflux for the residents of Garland, Rowlett, and the Greater Dallas area.
Your circulatory system is an amazing part of your body that delivers oxygen-rich blood to your organs, muscles, and tissues. Your cells gather the oxygen and other nutrients from your blood to generate the energy that your body needs. Arteries carry blood to your body, and veins return the blood to your heart where it receives more oxygen, and the process is repeated. For your blood to return to your heart, it must overcome the force of gravity. To accomplish this, your veins have tiny valves that open to allow blood to pass. These veins then close to prevent the blood from flowing backward. When the valves do not close properly, the blood succumbs to gravity and flows back down to the lower veins where it pools. Your veins are designed to hold a finite amount of blood, so as the amount of blood increases, the vein begins to swell. Eventually, the vein walls weaken.
How Do I Know If I Have Venous Reflux?
The improper blood flow caused by venous reflux causes some external indications of improper circulation. Some of the most common signs are red or purple darkening of your skin, spider veins, varicose veins, and venous ulcers. If you notice any of these signs of venous reflux, contact our office to schedule a consultation appointment.
